Liturgy for Maundy Thursday / Good Friday

One of the longstanding traditions is to keep vigil the night preceding Jesus’ crucifixion—sunset Thursday through sunrise Good Friday. At Advent, we engage this practice remotely and carry it through from Thursday evening until the start of our Tenebrae service on Good Friday. Each participant signs up for a one-hour block of time. This guide walks you through the hour, waiting with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane and approaching the cross with him. Waking in the night to pray and meditate on our Lord’s sacrifice is powerful.

Please sign-up by emailing Robin for a one hour slot.

This year, the sanctuary will be open Thursday evening from 8:00-10:00 p.m. and on Friday morning beginning at 7:00 a.m.

As in previous years, we’re providing a liturgy that has been created to guide you through the hour of prayer. You may find the PDF of this liturgy here. Please join us in praying through the night just as our Lord did in Gethsemane.
