A unique and special time of worship, fellowship, and feasting awaits us on this evening! This is the moment when we cross over with Christ from Lent into Easter, from the grave to resurrection! Through the one-hour liturgy, we will hear the narrative of God’s redemption through scripture readings, accompanied by art from some of our parish kids. We will respond in song and renew our baptismal vows through the traditional “asperges,” and we will ring in Easter with its first “alleluia,” then adding our volume to The Great Noise. Intrigued? Come see what it’s all about! Our worship will then continue in the Gathering Place with a very short communion liturgy enjoyed together around tables. This different way of celebrating the true feast of Jesus will set the stage for our epic Break-the-Fast Feast, where we’ll revel in the miracle of Easter and the joy of each other’s company… and food that is anything but Lenten!
What to know to prepare: There will not be childcare, as this service is designed for all. As the baptismal waters feature significantly in this service, we will set out a bowl of holy water at the entrance to the sanctuary for people to use to sign the cross on their forehead (or simply touch) in remembrance of their baptisms. (Parents, we hope this is a valuable spiritual and sensorial experience for your baptized children rather than a spill hazard you have to worry about.) Please bring something loud (truthfully!) to ring or bang for The Great Noise. Also please bring some sort of celebratory food—savory, sweet, salty, you name it—for the feast that follows. If you bring something gluten-free, etc., please bring a note to place with it letting people know.
We look forward to entering into Eastertide with you on this special evening!
