Download Bulletin

You can download a printable bulletin to follow the service.

Please note: The video will not show until The Live Liturgy starts at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 5.

Welcome

Welcome to The Live Liturgy! We’ve worked hard to make your worship experience engaging with God, engaging with each other, and engaged with your whole self, right where you are. You are not a spectator at a distance; you are a participant in a collaborative moment. We are here. Together. And I’m so glad to be with you. Welcome to worship. Welcome to church. Welcome, this morning, to Advent Anglican.

Before Worship

What to Have on Hand

Here’s what you’ll need in order to fully participate:

  1. A Bible.

  2. Something to write with.

  3. A notecard to write a brief note to someone.

  4. A bulletin. Liturgical worship is not something you watch a leader do; it’s something we all do together, collaboratively and in real time. So you’ll need a bulletin in order to follow along and uphold your part. We distributed printed bulletins via our regional pick-up boxes, but you can download a printable bulletin.

How to Prepare Your Space and Yourself

Admittedly, your surroundings may lack the visual cues that typically draw us into worship. Here are three tips for crafting some degree of “sacred space” around you.

  1. Prepare your room: Shut the door. Turn off ringers. Dim lights. Add a candle. Maybe some quiet, worshipful background music.

  2. Prepare yourself: Upgrade from pajamas to an outfit that tells yourself, “This is important.” Finish tasks (like making breakfast or coffee, etc.) rather than carrying them into “the sanctuary” with you.

  3. Engage a friend: Connect with someone who is planning to do The Live Liturgy as well. Send a group text asking if they are “at church” with you. Since this live event is hosted by Facebook as a “Facebook Premiere,” you can send a friend request to people you haven’t connected with yet, message fellow attendees, and INVITE A FRIEND who you think might be curious about church... or curious to see how your church is flexing with the times. Now, before worship begins, is a great time send them an invitation.

During Worship

The Live Liturgy

The Live Liturgy will run a little over an hour. It is a live event, starting promptly at 10:00 a.m. PST. Click to set a Reminder through Facebook now and join the event at 10:00 a.m.

We are using Facebook’s “Premiere Video” option, which allows for an easy user experience, and plenty of community interaction—before, after, and even during the event. You DO NOT have to have a Facebook account to view the event, AND I have made effort to incorporate people who are NOT on Facebook in the interactive components of our worship. You’ll be able to participate fully, regardless of your status with Facebook.

Staying in the Sanctuary after The Live Liturgy

After The Live Liturgy has finished, I invite you to exit worship in several directions. (See below.) But if you’d like to linger longer in “the sanctuary,” here’s what we have prepared for you.

The Sermon

Our sermon this week is provided by Fr. Casey Bedell, who is rector at Saint Ambrose Anglican in Seattle. His sermon for this Sunday is available as an audio file below. I encourage you to extend your worship time with this sermon or save it for later in the week, depending on how you will best be able to focus and receive.

The Passion Narrative

This week we heard The Passion Narrative according to Matthew 26:14-27:66 read by Fr. Bruce Waltke. You may listen to it again here.

Worship Through Song

Dcn. Jeremiah Webster has again recorded music for you to sing along to in worship. Here is a PDF download of the Worship Music Lyrics to sing along.

Also, you heard hymns and service music in the midst of The Live Liturgy. If you want to revisit those pieces for worship, we’ve made them available below.

After Worship

Receiving and Giving Prayer

Intercessory Prayer with Clergy: If you’d like Fr. Aaron to pray with you on Tuesdays and Thursdays in April, please sign up for a 15-minute one-on-one prayer session via Calendly by clicking the Calendly link. If you sign up, please include your cell number in the “notes” and I will call you at the appointed time.

NEW: Prayer Circle Letter: If you value handwritten, shared prayer opportunities, we’ve got something special for you. Based on an Amish custom, we’re launching a Prayer Circle Letter. Note: This initiative has been put on pause while we work out the details.

Visit with Friends!

Take a moment to connect—or make plans to connect—with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Need ideas? Chat with others on our Facebook page! Make plans with a friend to talk on the phone while you prepare lunch or while you each take an afternoon walk! Better yet: FINISH THAT LETTER OF ENCOURAGEMENT that you started for the passing of the peace during The Live Liturgy!

Get excited about new opportunities coming Soon

Not only will we worship like this again next Sunday; there’s more to come this week and next. Take a look at what’s just around the corner:

  • Social hangouts via Zoom!

  • A women’s ministry we had already planned to launch will now head online!

  • Children’s ministry videos and activities from Pastor Wendy (coming this week!)

  • We are launching a church app (yes, seriously!) as a way to keep you informed without adding to the inundation of your inbox.

  • Teens will match wits with Fr. Aaron in a head-to-head bout of Jack Box live! Bring it on, teens... I’m ready for you.

Please join our email list

There is so much happening. We’ll do our best to keep you informed without overwhelming you. If you’re not already on our email list you can join simply by texting ADVENT to 206-745-5744 or by emailing janeen@advent.church and requesting to be added.

Onward

What a strange week, friends. There is more yet to come. Remember to bind yourselves to one another and to the Lord, while reaching out for others in His love. I am with you, thinking of you often, praying for you sincerely, and glad to be together in this.

Lenten blessings, one and all.
